      <image:title>projects - AD ASTRAS FIELD| topeka, ks</image:title>
<image:caption>  The driving force of this 4th-year architecture studio project was to create a minor league baseball stadium for the city of Topeka, Kansas. Early on it became apparent that there is a crude isolation and lack of connectedness from the city core to Northern Topeka. Similarly, the site is located directly north of the Capitol Building on the same side of the river, connected by Van Buren Street. By creating a connection between these major landmarks, the city of Topeka would be greatly enhanced. This “lightbulb moment” brought on the realization that the assignment of designing and creating only a baseball stadium had turned into a significant urban design opportunity. My idea was to turn Van Buren St. into a pedestrian-only pathway. This walkway would begin at the Capitol building and lead Topeka along an array of green public spaces and retail shops, all the way to the Kansas River riverfront and eventually the historic Northern Topeka. The baseball stadium, then, would act as a major node along that pathway, providing enriching views as the path ascends above the park and becomes part of the structure of the stadium. By implementing design strategies such as creative placemaking and placekeeping, I have successfully set a precedent on how to rekindle the visual and physical relationship to the northern district, while simultaneously creating a new cultural amenity for the City of Topeka, Kansas.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Attaining Nirvana is a movie concept I came up with focused around a cliff-house overlooking a lake + with an emphasis on the owner's car collection. Above is an exterior rendering with a futuristic Sci-fi twist. The house was made in 3ds Max and then was exported as a clay image. All rendering details including: lighting, materials, background, images, etc. were executed in Adobe Photoshop.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Circuit builds upon the Chicago River Trail Action Plan, the Goose Island master plan, the 606 Bloomingdale Trail, the water taxi, and the existing Metra line to create greater, more sustainable connections. This multi-modal transportation hub brings Chicagoans to the area via train, bus, bike, car, and foot and improves the lives of commuters and neighbors alike.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Designed by Trevor Hoiland while at Helix Architecture + Design. This project is the future Headquarters for McCownngordon Construction Company. My task on this project was to create artistic renderings that focused on materiality function and space. I worked closely with Trevor to capture the appropriate essence within each image. Tools used: Cannon DSLR, Sketchup, Podium, and Photoshop</image:caption>

<image:caption>One of my biggest achievements was being the lead designer on the the Kansas City Art Institute Student Living Center project. Not only was I responsible for designing the exterior facade but i was able to create images and renderings that helped convey the idea to the client and our project team. The above rendering shows the intimate courtyard space that is created between the new and old Student Living Center buildings.</image:caption>
